This is an Illustration I've painted for Cthulhu No Kami, an upcoming tabletop RPG at studio Deadcrows.
That was quite a challenging scene to tackle! It had to render the scale of a mythical fight between Namazu (the creature sleeping under the islands of japan and whose infrequent movements cause earthquakes) and Cthulhu. It is a statement of sorts about the game's way of integrating the Cthulhu Mythos alongside japanese folklore and mythology.
The image had to walk the line between properly epic kaiju imagery without cheapening the whole cosmic horror dimension. For some reason, my approach was to sneak in a bit of the Laocoön in the gesture and "framing" to give it all a bit of a classical sheen.
