Here's a commission by Sans détour éditions, ( www.sans-detour.com ) for a supplement for the french Edition for the Call of Cthulhu tabletop Roleplaying game.
The subject matter is the "Notre Dame de la Garde" Cathedral, one of the major landmarks of Marseille, towering above the old port.
It was an interesting challenge, as architecture is not something I have practiced as much as anatomy. In order not to lose sight of the perspective I did a 3D blockout in Blender that I used as a basis.
I then went on to painting, in keeping with the cool color themes requested by the art direction of the french edition of the game.
I think I still have a long way to go, but this work got me thinking about how to make architecture painting interesting to watch, choosing what to simplify and where to draw attention, while keeping maximum accuracy. Overall I am proud of this piece and of what it taught me.
